We like to think that we put our best foot forward each day, but sometimes a second opinion never hurts. Here is what the press has to say about their experiences at Jade...

"Zagat Top Rated Newcomer 2004/2005"
"A legitimate legend in the making, this hot Hayes Valley newcomer provides a small but beautiful three level setting for unwinding replete with comfy chairs, a 20-ft cascading waterfall and tiled koi pond; the crowd's hip but not annoying the bartenders are cool and even the most jaded are impressed by the tasty Asian-style tapas and superb happy hour during which quality cocktails and premium beers are two bucks; P.S. everyone should take a trip to the men's room to check out the mirror. " - Zagat 2004/05

"Fantastic New Lounge"

"A cascading, twenty-foot waterfall helps set the aqueous tone, reflected in the iridescent blue-green Bisazza tiles, fish tanks, blooming orchids and a koi pond in the subterranean grotto lounge. It's perhaps ironic that this tri-level DJ bar rests on the site of a former Alcoholics Anonymous meeting center, given the well-crafted drinks and special house concoctions(quite reasonably priced), that glow in mermaid colors. The vaguely Asian bites--spring rolls, tuna poke, papaya salad-help slake the hunger. And if you're of the male persuasion, don't miss the
view through the one-way mirror in the men's room."

“Love walked right in and out”
“RESTAURANT BUZZ: A two-way men's-room mirror in San Francisco's new Jade Bar gives guys a view while powdering their noses (a euphemism, not a reference to controlled substances). Owner Greg Medow says ladies didn't get equal treatment because space limitations put the women's room behind the men's room, but resourceful women have taken matters into their own hands (not literally) and are using the men's facilities. “

“To-do list A drive-by tour of new San Francisco nightspots.”
“Jade Bar, the new venue at the Hayes Valley-Western Addition-Civic Center intersection that has been threatening to open for months, finally lets people in March 21. The bar took over a space that used to house Alcoholic Anonymous meetings (oh, the irony), and it's owned by the people from neighboring restaurant Indigo. There's a green theme (of course) and a lit waterfall by the front window that cascades 20 feet down into a mini-fishpond. Jade is fairly small, but it makes the most of what it's got – there's a comfy balcony lounge with shag carpet and little ottoman seats, a tall, open front room, and a low-ceilinged basement with a bigger bar. The current plan seems to be to lure in post-work happy-hour drinkers with $2 specials, post-symphony sorts with Asian-themed small-plate snacks, and post-dinner diners from Hayes Valley with specialty cocktails. “

"...plenty of atmosphere in the three-tiered space, with an eye- catching cascade of water flowing down by the front entrance. On the bottom level, water splashes into a low pool edged with stands for drinks and low cushioned stools. While guests sip cocktails like the "Betty Ford'' (Makers Mark bourbon and Southern Comfort with lemon and cherry juices), servers deftly slip plates of food onto low tables. " - SF Gate

“A soothing lounge for the well-heeled Hayes Valley crowd.”
From the green-tiled bar to the fresh orchids set into candlelit nooks, all elements work to calm the cocktail psyche. Jade is a harmony in three parts. The main floor houses a small central bar and a 20-foot waterfall that empties into a pond below. Follow the trickle downstairs and discover a lounge with Asian-styled banquettes and a second bar. Or, head upstairs to the shag-carpeted loft.As one of the only bars in the neighborhood not tied to a restaurant, Jade fills a void. This is the place to go when the opera lets out or when you're finished pillaging the area's treasured boutiques. Unlike the throng of Marina and North Beach lounges, Jade's stand-alone status guarantees you can relax with other attractive 20- and 30-somethings without spending all night looking for parking.”

"Stylish Spots for Potent Drinks and Appetizing Eats"
The word is out about Jade Bar: a cool, new-ish locale that offers cocktails and tempting nibbles. On a typical Friday night, an after work crowd packs the narrow three-level bar during happy hour for $2 drinks, such as the signature Jade Cocktail....The menu offers five small plates, including spicy ahi tuna poke and tender marinated chicken skewers. Saunter up to the cozy upstairs lounge and watch the waterfall - it cascades down all three levels - or curl up on one of the suede couches in the lower bar area.Guys, don't miss a trip to the bathroom. The one-way mirror with a view of the bar can add a little titillating voyeurism to your experience." - 7 x 7 Magazine

“Try small plates in San Francisco”

“Treading the middle ground between fancy bar and small plates restaurant, Jade Bar offers tantalizing Asian-themed dishes to go with a number of specialty cocktails. The ritzy atmosphere, with the 15-foot waterfall at the bar's entrance and the oversized fish tanks and coi pond in the downstairs lounge, might give the frugal reveler pause, but rest assured that the prices here are actually quite reasonable. The establishment's signature Jade Cocktail -- a smooth blend of Vanilla Vodka, Melon Liqueur and fresh fruit juices served in a martini glass -- is only $5 and can be had at the alarmingly low price of $2 during the 5-7 p.m. weekday happy hour (along with $2 well drinks, draft beers and house wines). The bar offers other creative concoctions as well. The $6 small plates menu features lighter snacks like the smoked salmon points on wonton chips with wasabi creme fraiche and the delicious Ahi tuna poke served on four Chinese soup spoons. However, there are also more substantial treats like the warm Shiitake mushroom spring rolls and grilled chicken skewers with spicy green curry sauce. Folks with a hefty appetite might need something more filling, but those accustomed to the small plates trend will find Jade Bar's menu satisfying. “
